The Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil speaking at a political event in Nadur this morning, said, “my message today in Nadur is straightforward. The Nationalist Party has become increasingly the Party of all the people of Malta and Gozo.”
Whilst paying tribute to the former Minister for Gozo Giovanna Debono, Dr Busuttil said that her resignation from the Nationalist Party and the Parliamentary Group, was a clear and logical conclusion that they had both reached, following the arraignment of her husband.
He added that whoever was in politics must lead by example and adopt high standards. “Although Giovanna Debono was not accused or arraigned, her position was no longer tenable because of the situation.”
Dr Busuttil thanked Mrs Debono for her long service in Maltese politics, in particular to Gozo.
Referring to Gozo, Dr Busuttil said that the PN will, in the coming months, be formulating a new plan and strategy for the Nationalist Party in Gozo.
“It will particularly focus on Chris Said’s role on Gozo, now that he is not standing for re-election for the post of Secretary General. This is in order for him to be able to devote all his energy towards the PN’s position on the island.”
