Gozo Motocross Association’s Fun Race is first event of season

The Gozo Motocross Association started its events for the season with a Fun Race held on the Xhajma track on Sunday afternoon.

The Association said that extensive work was carried out around the track area, with routes and ramps replaced, resulting in a completely new look and layout to the track.

The committee announced that there is still further work to be done to the track to bring it up to a high level which will benefit riders of all levels, as well as the crowds who come to follow this sport.

There was a good turnout of 18 riders participating in the event, all followed by a sizable crowd, who were able to enjoy some exciting racing between both experienced and amateur riders.

This Fun Race was divided into three categories A, B and C. Mario Cauchi was classified first in category A, followed by John Attard in second and Adam Sultana in third place. Category B, Charles Borg came first, followed by Matthew Mercieca and Nataniel Camilleri. Jorn Stellini acquired sixty points for the day in Class C, while Kurt Fenech and Matthew Spiteri gained second and third place respectively. The winners were awarded a trophy each.

The Gozo Motocross Association is organising the Championship 2015/16, which will consist of eight races starting on Sunday, the 18th of October 2015 and ending with the Finals on the 8th of May 2016. During the season there will also be other events organised including Fun Races and Trials.

The Association said that it would like to encourage more drivers and the public participate and attend these sporting fixtures.
