Winter bus routes in Gozo started successfully on Sunday – MPT

Winter bus routes in Gozo started successfully on Sunday - MPTSunday saw the start of the new winter bus routes in Gozo which were implemented by Malta Public Transport.

Malta Public Transport in a statement today said that, “the new routes have brought about an important improvement in the level of service in Gozo with increased frequency of service, more bus stops and added routes to provide a better transport service.”

The drivers and general public will also benefit about the fact that new services will comply with the bus timetables as these have more realistic running times adapted to the current conditions of traffic, Malta Public Transport said.

“The implementation of the new winter routes did not require any change in the drivers’ working conditions and was carried out within the parameters of the current collective agreement.”

MPT said that, “the new routes have been implemented despite the industrial action ordered by the General Workers Union. There were no legal grounds for ordering such industrial action and as a result, none of the drivers obeyed the Union’s orders.”

“The Union has failed in trying to stop the launch of the new winter routes in Gozo. Furthermore, the Union has taken advantage of the implementation of the new routes to ask the Company to change the current working conditions something which is prohibited by the Court following the Union’s own request,” said Mr Julio Tironi, ALESA Director.

Back in June, new bus routes [1] also started in Gozo.

Please can MPT update the website timetables, it’s been out of date for ages…

I don’t think Transport Malta publishes a proper timetable any longer, certainly not one that you could plan a journey.

Our bus stop still shows Summer 2015 time table. The service generally works well but someone needs to point out that if the buses are running early, as they do outside the busy daytime periods, they should wait at the stop. We see buses going past the stop 5,6 or even 7 minutes early and it is worse than the bus being a few minutes late especially the last bus at night! (Often see tourists waiting for the bus at the correct time not knowing it has already gone)
Also when the route is changed because of an event in a village, put notices on the bus stops because otherwise people are waiting for buses that are never going to arrive! This happened with route 312 this weekend.

Transport Malta website time table still shows Winter times and routes from before the new company, that is last winter. 312 for example shows the route as it was, Victoria, San Lawrenz, Gharb instead of the other way round together with last year’s times. Five minute job to correct. I raised this issue months ago with TM and did not receive a response!!
