Students from the Gozo College Victoria Primary School were present for the official opening of the Mediterranean Peace Donkey exhibition at the Mdina Cathedral Art Biennale.
The 21 life-size fibreglass Maltese donkeys sculpted by Egyptian artist Dr. Reda Abdel Rahman, and painted by 21 noted Egyptian, Maltese and Western artists including the one painted by the Victoria Primary students, are symbolising the need for peace and compassion between the Middle East and West, and more specifically, throughout the Mediterranean Basin.
They are viewable in the Cathedral Museum (15 donkeys), Palazzo de Piro (3 donkeys) and the National Museum of Natural History/ Vilhena Palace (3 donkeys) until the 7th of January 2016.
The Mediterranean Peace Donkey exhibition uses the symbol of the renowned and endangered Maltese donkey to focus global attention on four critical needs: religious harmony, East-West relations, donkey welfare in zones of conflict, and humanitarian assistance for migrants/refugees.
