A new Front is being launched on Tuesday, 'Front Favur il-Mina': The Movement is being formed, it said, "to bring together those Maltese and Gozitans who believe, that in the best interest of the citizens a tunnel is to be built between Malta and Gozo."
During the launch, which is taking place at Sa Maison in Malta, Labour MP Franco Mercieca and Nationalist MP Chris Said, who are both in support of the Front, will address those present.
A facebook page [1] has been started for the campaign.
Earlier this month a presentation [2] took place organised by the Gozo Business Chamber, on The option for a Gozo – Malta subsea tunnel, which found that it "is feasible from the economic and financial perspectives."
This comes out as the result of a report, commissioned by Transport Malta and The Gozo Business Chamber (GBC) with the support of Bank of Valletta, regarding the establishing of a permanent link between the island of Gozo and mainland Malta and compiled by economist Dr Gordon Cordina.
The Report said that for the purposes of this analysis, three different options are considered as follows:
Option 1: Business as usual – a baseline scenario;
Option 2: Project scenario: Linking both islands by means of a bridge;
Option 3: Project scenario: Linking both islands through the sub seabed tunnel scenario.
