Another fine weekend, the first of the New Year, has once again attracted thousands of visitors to cross over from Malta, to enjoy the day in Gozo.
Long queues have been reported since early this morning, stretching from Mellieha to Cirkewwa, waiting to board the ferry.
Gozo Channel has been running a shuttle service to cope with the demand.
Last weekend saw a record number of passengers and cars crossing over to the island. The Ministry for Gozo said that 10,500 passengers and 2,500 cars crossed over on Boxing Day, with the trend continuing on Sunday, when 10,700 passengers and 2,300 cars crossed over.
"This means that compared to last year, there was an increase in passengers on Gozo Channel of 81% and the number of cars crossing between the two islands was up by 65%," it said.
