Alternattiva Demokrattika has said that it supports the criminalisation of "gay conversion therapy" and therefore supports the bill being presented in parliament.
Furthermore Alternattiva Demokrattika forms part of the LGBTQI Consultative Council that, together with other entities, was involved in the drafting of this bill, including experts on LGBTQI issues.
Prof. Arnold Cassola stated that, "this Bill has been presented in order to ensure just and equal treatment of all members of society."
Alternattiva Demokratika spokesperson for LGBT issues Dr. Claire Azzopardi Lane claimed that, "the paper presented by the Church clearly confuses issues and should be revised.The current bill affirms the right of every person to seek professional help, irrespective of their identity."
She added, "contrary to what the Church position implies, the Bill does not and will not prevent professionals either from treating paedophiles or people who need psychological help. Furthermore the tendency of the Church to connect paedophilia and pathology to any LGBTIQ identity continues to suppress the recent progressive achievements for the same community."
