Industrial producer price index rose slightly in December - NSOProvisional data indicate that the industrial producer price index in January 2016 increased by 0.03 per cent to 95.54 points when compared to the previous month, the National Statistics Office said today.

Prices for capital and intermediate goods increased by 0.15 and 0.09 per cent respectively. Mitigating this increase was a drop of 0.05 per cent in the prices of the consumer goods sector. Energy prices remained constant

. Domestic market prices increased by 0.10 per cent. This was due to an increase in prices within the capital, intermediate and consumer goods sectors, by 0.43, 0.20 and 0.01 per cent respectively.

Prices for the total non-domestic market remained static. However, prices within the non- euro area increased by 0.04 per cent while a decrease of 0.09 per cent within the euro area was registered.

On an annual basis, the industrial producer price index went down by 2.10 per cent when compared to 2015. The downturn resulted from price decreases in energy (14.02 per cent) and intermediate goods (1.63 per cent). On the other hand, prices within capital and consumer goods rose by 1.41 and 0.88 per cent respectively.

Producer prices for the domestic market decreased by 3.18 per cent, mainly on account of a drop in prices for energy (14.02 per cent). Price increases were recorded in capital goods (2.78 per cent), intermediate goods (2.42 per cent) and consumer goods (1.02 per cent).

Non-domestic prices declined by 1.28 per cent, resulting from decreases of 1.68 per cent and 1.05 per cent within the euro and the non-euro area respectively.
