Gozo Youth Council has said that it welcomes the national debate on Gozo’s Accessibility. In a statement today, the GYC said that it proposes that any studies should also consider a national underground system that would included a permanent link to Gozo.
Since its inception over two years ago, the Gozo Youth Council said that it has emphasised the need to strengthen Gozo’s accessibility
“The Gozitan Youths believe that the reintroduction of fast ferry services is an essential and immediate measure that needs to be taken while urging entities to carry out environmental, geological studies and impact assessment tests regarding the possibility of a tunnel between Gozo and Malta.”
“The Gozo Youth Council believes that issue of Gozo’s accessibility is a national one and thus national importance should be given and national decisions should be made.”
Moreover, the GYC said that it extends its support to the Front Favur il-Mina initiative of holding a national conference to discuss Gozo’s accessibility and encourages all youths to participate, details of the conference are shown below.
The GYC is the umbrella organisation that gathers 28 youth organisations based in Gozo and the Gozitan Youths working in Malta.
Front Favur il-Mina is organising a National Conference is to be held in Gozo, taking place on the 16th of April and titled – ‘Insahhu L-Accessibilta.’
The conference will be organised in conjunction with Circolo Gozitano and the aim is to discuss accessibility between Malta and Gozo with the general public, including the subject of the tunnel proposal, such as risks, technical issues and challenges.
Gozo’s Grand Hotel is the venue for the event, which will be attended by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and the Leader of Opposition Simon Busuttil.
Registration will start at 9am and the conference will begin at 9.30am with a brief presentation given by Front members.
The main speakers for the debate will be Professor Godfrey Baldacchino, Dr Simon Mizzi, Gozo Channel Chairman Joe Cordina and a representative of the Gozo Business Chamber. Both Prof. Baldacchino and Dr. Mizzi attended today’s launch.
The Front Coordinators are encouraging the general public to be present for the National Conference to ensure a fruitful debate.
