16 Gozitan and Maltese athletes are to participate in the Special Olympics National Games in Cyprus, being held between the 10th and 15th of April.
The team, led by Anna Calleja Director of Special Olympics Malta, flew out on Wednesday for Cyprus, and on behalf of the Government, Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing Justyne Caruana, augured the athletes well for the events.
Dr Caruana applauded the fact that among the team are athletes from Gozo, which she said, demonstrates the success of the operation of Special Olympics Gozo.
"This is a clear example of how people with disabilities can be active and do honour to Malta as a country, when participating in these games and achieve good results when abroad."
The athletes will compete in the disciplines of swimming, athletics and cycling. The opening ceremony will take place in Nicosia on Sunday.
