LGBTI+ Gozo has said that gender neutral bathrooms assist all those who live outside the gender binary identities and even transgender people.
"Society needs to understand that not only sexual orientation is a continuum but even gender," the NGO said.
In Malta, Kunsill Studenti Universitarji (KSU) together with We Are, lobbied with the University of Malta Administration to install Gender Neutral Toilets on campus.
They said that presently, toilets at the Faculty of the Built Environment building are already gender neutral. Now, the Second floor bathroom of the Library is also a gender neutral bathroom, as well as one of the toilets within Students' House.
LGBTI+ Gozo said that it is pleased to see these changes at the University of Malta thanks to KSU and We Are, and urges for public gender neutral bathrooms in Gozo too.
LGBTI + Gozo added that it is working towards better equality between Genders and sexual orientation while educating various stakeholders about the importance of Safe sex, sexuality and living a healthy lifestyle. This is through various seminars targeting all the society.
The organisation concluded by saying that, "discrimination is a common recurring, let us be safe, learn and understand holistically the implications, let's not be afraid to talk about reality."
