The Planning Authority in collaboration with the Building Regulation Office (BRO) and the Malta Tourism Authority will be stopping demolition and excavation works at construction sites within tourism areas during the summer months.
They said that conscious that construction sites are a nuisance and bring with them a number of inconveniences to the surrounding neighbourhood, the Authority together with the Building Regulation Office will be enforcing that such works are not carried out between the 15th of June and the 30th September 2016.
The greatest inconvenience within a construction site certainly takes place during the demolition or excavation phase of the site. The enforcement of this legal notice is one way of mitigating the nuisance that construction sites have both on the tourism industry and local families.
Any illegal excavation and demolition works carried out in the identified localities and streets may be reported to the Building Regulation Office on telephone number 2292 7608 (during office hours) or 99637508 (after office hours).
The full list of localities and streets where demolition or excavation works are prohibited during the summer months in Gozo may be viewed below.
The Malta Tourism Authority, whose competence it is to identify the localities and streets where demolition or excavation works cannot be carried out, reserves the right to change or amend the list of streets as it deems necessary.
