The Minister for Gozo Anton Refalo and Minister of Finance Edward Scicluna visited several projects in Gozo, which they said, amount to a total investment € 50 million.
Some of these projects are in an advanced phase, others have been completed in the past weeks, while some are about to begin.
“The purpose of this visit,” the Finance Minister said, “is one of overseeing the heavy investment being made in Gozo through funds allocated in the Budget. The projects are carried out through this investment, contributing to the embellishment of Gozo, as well strengthening the Gozitan economy.”
Minister Anton Refalo spoke about one of the new projects in hand, saying that the Ministry for Gozo expects that in the coming weeks the Planning Authority will issue a permit for work to start on a new court building in Triq Borg Olivier, Victoria. This project will include underground parking to alleviate the existing problem in the area.
He said that the court will be in a more convenient and modern location. The identified site for the new court is the parking area between Triq Borg Olivier and Triq Guzeppi Labre. It is estimated that this project will cost around € 5 million, Dr Refalo added.
Another of the new projects which is underway is at St Francis Square. Dr Refalo said that the plan includes steps down towards the bus station and parking area, a lift leading from the car park to the square and exhibition hall. It also includes the landscaping of St Francis Square
“This project is necessary to remove the dangers that currently exists when the public have to walk from the parking area to the square,” Dr Refalo said.
He explained that the ongoing construction work on the foundations for the steps will take time because the base is made from clay.
Dr Refalo concluded by saying that this project will cost in the region of € 3 million and will improve accessibility to St. Francis Square, in which the Ministry for Gozo and most of the Government services are located.

Why in Victoria – the city is far too overcrowded.
Why not in Xewkija, where there are empty buildings?
Why not somewhere where there will be easy access and space to park…?
