The Communist Party stated "that it fully supports the initiative taken by various organisations in calling for an increase in the national minimum wage income. Union organisations should also join this campaign."
The Party added "that European Studies show that an increase in the minimum wage income will affect positive the 'working poor' and a way to cover non-unionised workers. Also the minimum wage can boost employment, first by increasing the spending power of the low-paid and, second, by spurring employment growth in low-paid sectors through guaranteeing basic levels of pay."
"Female organisations should also support this campaign as a good number of workers on a minimum wage income are women, be it on a full-time or part-time basis," concluded the Communist Party of Malta.
