Xlendi Bay has been declared “fit for swimming by the Environmental Health Directorate, following “the repeated sampling of seawater carried out on a daily basis during the last few days.”
The Bay was closed on the 26th of September, due to what was described by the Directorate as “heavy contamination, by what appeared to be illegally dumped farm waste.”
This had caused a blockage in a major artery, which resulted in an overflow into the valley and down to the beach.
Water Services Corporation workers worked on site to clean up the “waste” and stem the flow to the sea.
