The Emergency Response & Rescue Corps (ERRC) of Gozo, has over the past few months been involved in a project aimed at educating children on environmental issues.
The `EcoRangers’ project is all about protecting and creating a sustainable environment, while at the same time making children more aware of certain environmental issues – in particular the dumping of waste and litter into the sea.
Sponsored through the Environmental Funding Support scheme at the Ministry for the Environment, Sustainable Development and Climate Change (MESDC), the ERRC said that the project “aimed to develop a sense of understanding, knowledge and experience on protecting and conserving the environment among children.
A large programme of activities were held in an effort to achieve these goals, as volunteers at ERRC participated in cleanups underwater, as well as in green areas and at the edge of cliffs around Gozo to promote the main themes of the project.
The ERRC said that the activities were held during the first six months of this year and has now been successfully completed.
Children attending Skola Sajf around the primary schools in Gozo have been attending educational talks about Environment Awareness and been given educational resources and games to further reinforce the main themes of this project.
The ERRC is a Gozo-based voluntary, charitable and non-profit organisation that aims to prevent and alleviate emergency situations involving people at risk.
