Staff together with members of their families, were sponsored by the Central Bank of Malta for the President’s Solidarity Fun Run held on Sunday.
Now in its 10th year, the event aims to collect funds for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation. Funds collected are donated during the annual televised show L-Istrina which is held on Boxing Day.
Wearing commemorative t-shirts, staff from the Bank joined the thousands of participants from four different routes. Some ran all the way from Rabat to Valletta covering more than 11 kms and others walked more than 4 kms either from St Venera, Msida or Paola to St George’s Square.
In her closing speech at the end of the event, President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca said that the Maltese always stand up to express solidarity, generosity, respect and love.
She highlighted that requests to the Community Chest Fund Foundation for help increase by the day, and that €800,000 a month is being spent on chemotherapy. She spoke of projected expenses that are expected to rise to €9 million, adding that this year’s L-Istrina needs to be stronger than usual.
