A senior technical delegation from TERNA, the Italian electrical network operator has recently met a senior delegation from Enemalta in Malta to hold advanced talks on the conclusive decisions that will influence the Malta Sicily interconnector feasibility study.
Enemalta commissioned this joint feasibility between the Maltese and Italian electricity grids last September. The feasibility study will cover technical, economic and regulatory issues that will influence how the operational framework of this Interconnector will function.
Enemalta Chairman Ing. Tranter stated “The implementation of this strategic electrical link to Sicily is of paramount importance to the future of Malta’s energy supply. The link will offer new and alternative options of supply of electricity and will also be a significant contributor to Malta’s climate change targets.”
It is intended that the feasibility study is concluded by the end of March this year and it is targeted to have this strategic electrical link with Sicily fully operational in the year 2012.
