Cittadella cleanup by Gozo branch of Red Cross

A group of volunteers from the Gozo branch of the Malta Red Cross recently took part in their continuing work of the cleanup at the Citadella Bastions in Victoria, which is a very important part of the conservation of the Citadella.

The main focus of their work is the elimination of weeds, plants and shrubs which are unsightly and which cause considerable damage to the fabric of the bastion walls.

The volunteer team was lead by Mr Anthony Grech, a SART instructor at the branch, along with another four qualified SART Red Cross volunteers.

This programme, which has been ongoing for a number of years, was launched by the Ministry for Gozo as part of a wider restoration and rehabilitation programme of the Cittadella.

The Ministry for Gozo finances this periodic initiative so that whilst ridding the Cittadella from unsightly growth it would also be supporting financially the Gozo Branch of the Malta Red Cross Society, enabling it to invest in the necessary equipment and training for its members in Gozo.
