Wink from a passenger – by Alain Salvary

Dear Gozitans,

“All good things must come to on end. I had looked for a quiet spot, safety within the E.U. and my quest led me to Gozo.

I tiptoed in, I will now tiptoe away from this wonderful rocky island with its wild coastline and green hills (after the rain only).

I spent much time wandering around yours roads, paths and local events, always accompanied by my faithful bike and camera. It has been 8 years, 8 years of pure enjoyment. Nothing will take that away from me.

Without pretence, I wanted for myself a hobby that allowed me direct participation in the daily life of this wonderful setting, in the shadows, a photographic observer of the goings-on, social, religious, cultural, political or environmental.

Integrating into Gozonews was as easy as sending an email to Michael and getting a green light, which in turn opened the door to a picturesque collaboration over 8 past years. What a pleasure it is to work with such honest people.

Wink from passenger - by Alain SalvaryIt’s important to me to highlight the great image that Ministers – Justyne today, Anton yesterday, spread within Gozo’s limits and on the international scene.

Justyne, Anton, if you’ll allow the familiarity, I witnessed you genuine kindness towards your kin and this will remain with me. Please do carry forward with it.

And a heartfelt thank you for allowing me to share your island and your intimacy at times. I believe that observation, just as much as exchanges, enable the identification of someone’s character. And I will tell it is: you are good people.

Gozo also bestowed upon me all the benefits of living the sea-side life. Upon my friend (François) also when, because of this recklessness, he broke both ankles and only needed 3 months to get back in perfect shape, with daily swims and sand-therapy in Ramla. Go Gozo!!!

Wink from passenger - by Alain SalvaryI found in Gozo what I was looking for, namely the peace and quiet while still being able to contribute to the local community, in as much as I could.

I’m leaving, going away because my arteries are reminding me of my true age. I still feel like living a few adventures though, and if my body allows, I will.

Thank you Gozo, and thank you and farewell to all its people and in particular:

Charlie First Gozitan I met. How could I forget ? Along with Joe and Eric you introduced me to the secret pleasure of classical music. How much I thank you for the wonderful ballet I saw in the church that one night. It was truly a special moment.

Joe, Louis, Denis So many good times we had, summer evenings spent around games and discovering local talents … Michela , Sarah, to name but two – how much talent I was given to witness!!

Marika, Simon What power couple you make ! You are a ray of sunshine for anyone that crosses your path. Simon I never saw you not salute anyone regardless of the situation. Always a kind word for each and everyone. Marika .. let me only mention your smile.

Marlene, Michael Great meeting you. You’ve shed new light on what the E.U could mean. I took great pleasure in sharing your public events.

Michael, Ryan, Marc, Manuel et consors ……. … Despite our generational gap you allowed me in and impressed me with your openness. You are Gozo’s present and future and that leaves it in very good hands. Don’t miss the step.

Paul The photos allowed us to cross .. a happiness for me .. your kindness always present regardless of the circumstances.

Pauline I enjoyed your kindness and your joy of life, I knew your commitment for the persons who have mental illness, all it’s in your honour. I discovered your voice, is amazing wahoooo, definitely love. I’m very happy to have met you.

Sandra You are Gozo’s shining beacon! What a great entertainer you are possibly the best. All that energy and generosity despite your 4 men at home!

VickyAnn, Frank and all your family Thanks for having shared with me your passion for dirt bikes. What dynamism of life! Best congratulations on the carnival!!! SPECTACULAR EVENT.
