The second edition of the International Kite & Wind Festival has been officially launched by Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana, which will once again be held in the area near San Dimitri chapel – just north of the village of Gharb.
Organised by the Ministry for Gozo and Gharb Local Council, the Festival will take place over the weekend of the 18th-20th of October.
The Minister said that this festival is unique to the islands and was a great success last year. It is an experience for kite enthusiasts, a tradition that Gozo was once renowned for, but that has faded over time.
She added that visitors to the island will have the opportunity to experience this ancient tradition, with the Festival featuring the participation of 20 international delegations of traditional and professional kit fliers.
There will also be food stalls, entertainment, and games complementing the main activities over the weekend.
The Mayor of David Apap Agius, thanked the Minister for Gozo for her support of this second edition of the Festival. He said that the local council is committed, in synergy with the Gozo Ministry, to attract more tourism to the island and to continue in promoting the locality of Gharb as a unique destination.
He concluded by encouraging everyone to attend this celebration of art, culture and colours.
People may register their interest to attend kite making workshops organised as part of the festival programme.
