Just over 1.8 million passengers crossed to Gozo in third quarter

1,840,575 passengers travelled on Gozo Channel between Malta and Gozo during the third quarter this year, according to the latest data from the National Statistics Office.

It said that this was up by 3.4% when compared to the corresponding quarter in 2018, with the highest number of passengers recorded in August – 649,878 or 35.3% of the total for the quarter.

When comparing to the previous year, the number of vehicles crossing on the ferries increased by 8.0%, totalling 538,864.

There were 8,240 trips which, the NSO said, was an an increase of 21.8% over 2018. As in previous years, the majority of trips took place in August – 2,802 or 34.0% of total trips for the quarter.

Between January and September, passenger and vehicle traffic originating from Cirkewwa was busiest on Friday and Saturday, whereas, the NSO said, highest numbers from Mgarr were recorded on Sunday and Saturday for passengers and Sunday and Monday for vehicles.
