The Ministry for Gozo has completed a successful pilot project for reverse osmosis systems to be installed in all Gozitan schools.
During an event at the Xewkija Primary School to mark the European Week of Waste Reduction, Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana said that the scheme had been a complete success.
Minister Caruana explained that last year the Gozo Eco-Schools Regional Committee was set up where students could suggest and put forward projects to be funded by the Ministry for Gozo.
One of the first to be proposed was by students of the Xewkija primary school to install a reverse osmosis system in their school.
She said that, this proposal developed into a scheme funded by the Ministry for Gozo for all schools in Gozo, where 12 schools will be benefiting from funds to install a reverse osmosis system and thereby reduce the amount of bottles of plastic used in our schools.
Dr Caruana showed her appreciation to the students of this school who had also submitted suggestions for other projects and presented an analysis on waste generated in Xewkija, which is the village where the waste facility is located.
During the inauguration ceremony of the reverse osmosis a statue of St. John was also inaugurated that has been restored by Hubert Saliba, with the work funded by the Ministry for Gozo.
