The first Gozo Arts Weekend is taking place later this month, and will focus on the work of artist Giuseppe Cali
This two-day event is organised by the Ministry for Gozo, in collaboration with L-Ghaqda Hbieb tal-Presepju Ghajnsielem and Ghajnsielem Parish.
Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, explained that the idea of these weekends is a programme of activities related to the island’s works of art, which aims to showcase these masterpieces, especially in the Gozitan churches.
She remarked that we have a great responsibility not only to preserve artistic heritage to be enjoyed by the public, but also to instill a sense of appreciation, especially in our young.
“We have worked on this new concept to identify particular artists and create a programme of activities related to their works that are found in Gozo, with talks, information, concerts and activities for children,” said Dr Caruana.
Director of Cultural Heritage within the Ministry for Gozo John Xuereb described Cali as one of the greatest artists this country ever had, who has distinguished himself for his realistic style and romantic influences that have marked his work.
Paul Stellini, and Archpriest of Ghajnsielem Canon Frankie Bajada said that this activity will highlight the restoration work being done in Ghajnsielem on the Cali paintings
The Gozo Art Weekend will be from Friday, the 24th to Sunday, the 26th of January. A programme will be available closer to the date by clicking here [1].
