The decision taken by the Government to safeguard jobs through the “guarantee minimum income” scheme, has been welcomed by the Left think-tank Organisation Zminijietna.
In a statement it said that, “guaranteed minimum income is a system of social welfare provision that guarantees that all citizens or families have an income sufficient to live on, in situation of precariousness or economic stagnation.”
Zminijietna added that it also recognises the efforts done by the Labour Administration to ensure sustainability of Malta’s financial, contrary to the right wing Administration.”
“With regards to sustainability of Government finances, we urge the Government to consider later the re-introduction of a progressive taxation system to meet those fiscal needs,” said Zminijietna.
