Ministry for Gozo applications are open for the distribution of thousands of free palm fronds to registered Gozitan fishermen, both full-time and part-time.
Lampuki season is fast approaching and Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri explained that the palm fronds are used as sheltering grounds for dolphin fish “lampuki” in the traditional “kannizzati” fishing method.
He said that the Ministry for Gozo, through its workers, embarked on a programme of treatment for the palm trees around the island of Gozo, as well as cutting fronds ensuring that there is no damage caused to the tree, ensuring that they remain healthy.
Minister Camilleri concluded by saying that the distribution of free palm fronds will continue every year thereby helping to reduce the problems and costs that Gozitan fishermen can face.
Applications for the palm fronds will be available for collection from the Ministry for Gozo during office hours, between 7:00 am and 1:00 pm from Monday to Friday.
