Malta and Gozo are featured in a new book which has just hit the shelves. The book, Heaven on Earth Green, is compiled by Sarah Siese, and compliments her other books in the series, Heaven on Earth and Heaven on Earth KIDS.

The 290 page coffee table book covers locations on every continent and focuses on places to stay, things to do and initiatives that each tourism industry has embarked upon which are eco-friendly and promote rural tourism.

The Malta & Gozo section, by local writer Monique Chambers, commends the MTA’s Eco Certification Scheme – which is in place to ensuring improved environmental performance in the areas resource conservation and promoting local produce and culture, and shows how the simplest of tactics are eco-friendly. For example, using local plants for landscaping, fertilizing using hotel generated mulch etc., using rain and secondary water to irrigate garden areas and toilet flushing’s the use of innovative steel tanks on hotel roofs using the sun to heat water and transmit it through metal pipes.

She also covers the underused electric taxi’s in Valletta and exposes the farming style experiences like ‘Be A Shepherd For A Day’, ‘herb-picking’ and ‘birdwatching’ offered by the Ager Foundation in Gozo to would-be visitors.

The book, priced at around €29.25 is available from www.amazon.co.uk [1], www.play.com [2] and Books etc., in Sliema.
