The Health Ministry has said that an 89-year-old man has died while being positive with Covid-19. He is the 13th patient to die with the virus and the third person since Saturday.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry said that the man was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital on the 23rd of August for “various health conditions.” He was swabbed for Covid-19 which resulted in negative.
The man was being cared for in isolation at Mater Dei because he had come into contact with a positive person while in the community, the Ministry said.
He was discharged from hospital on the morning of the 31st of August “without any symptoms” and sent home, the Ministry said.
It added that, “his condition deteriorated rapidly and was admitted to the Emergency Department, where he was confirmed positive for Covid-19. He died at Mater Dei earlier today.”
The Ministry, while offering its condolences to the patient’s family, reiterated its appeal for the public to continue to follow the public health guidelines.
