Record 106 new Covid-19 cases recorded overnight, with 22 recoveries106 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the past 24-hours, with 22 recoveries. Health authorities advised that today’s cases “are still being investigated.”

This is the highest number of cases reported over a 24-hour period since the start of the pandemic in Malta, the previous record was 78 cases, which was last Sunday.

From yesterday’s 49 cases, authorities said that 10 were family members of previously known cases, 5 were work colleagues of positive cases, 2 were direct contacts of other positive cases, 3 were from the St Joseph Home cluster and 15 were from the Casa Antonia Home for the Elderly cluster. Details were not given for the other outstanding 14 cases.

There were 2,470 swab tests taken, with 221,162 having been taken since the start.

There are now 591 active cases, with 2,560 cases in total. 1,953 have recovered and there have been 16 deaths.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and [1] Control – not including today’s cases – is showing for Malta the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is 105.8 with the number of cases as 2,454. Malta is in fourth position in the EU/EEA and UK. Spain is at the top with 281.6, followed by France with 162.8, Czechia with 111.0, followed by Malta.

Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.

All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
