Victoria Scout Group project helps protect Dwejra’s biodiversity

The Victoria Scout Group in Gozo is currently engaged in a project called – GoingGreen, which has been possible through a grant by the Ministry for Gozo under the NGO Scheme 2020.

As part of the project the Victoria Scouts have inaugurated a new set of festoons, LED light bulbs and used recycled cereal boxes as shades in order to make sure that the light does not impact negatively on the biodiversity of Dwejra while they are at camp. They also inaugurated a set of tripod stands.

Through these funds, the Group were also able to purchase an energy-efficient fridge (A++) to be used at camp, LED lightings to be used under canvas, tools and other equipment which will help the group to respect the biodiversity of Dwejra, the place where the group holds its annual camps (pre and hopefully post-Covid).

The Group said that as part of this project, its young members held discussions and information sessions on environmental issues, especially those related to Dwejra. The group organised a cleanup and held educational online meetings on the subject.

The Victoria Scout Group thanked the Ministry For Gozo for this opportunity, in order for it to “continue to offer the Gozitan society especially its youths a safe and engaging holistic educational experience in a fun and adventurous way – to build a better Gozo.”
