Health authorities said that 140 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the past 24-hours with 131 recoveries, making 1,832 active cases. 3,414 swabs were taken.
Today’s cases are “still being investigated,” and the authorities said from yesterday’s 100 cases; 7 were family members of previously known cases, 18 were contacts of positive work colleagues, 5 were direct contacts with other positive cases, 3 cases were imported and 3 were from social gatherings with other positive cases. Details were not given for the other outstanding 64 sporadic cases.
The total number of cases are now up to 6,182. There have been 4,286 recoveries and 64 deaths, the Ministry said. There have been 339,733 swab tests taken since the start of the pandemic in Malta.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and [1] is showing for Malta that up to this morning, but not including today’s figures, the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000, is 356.6 the number of cases recorded is 6,042 as well as 62 deaths. Malta is currently in sixteenth position in the EU/EEA and UK. Belgium is at the top with 1702.1, followed by Czechia with 1561.3.
Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.
All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.

I spend this morning in Malta .
NO WONDER THAT so many cases in Malta .
I would count min 500 Motorbikes on the road and on the parking spaces ( Photographers and spectators included ) only on the Coast Road !!!
No Police around / approx. 100 Motorbikes on the Ferry Kiosk
and the ” normal ” amount in Gozo on Sunday Mornings .
Social Distancing – only on the bike .

having a quiet lone swim at Hondoq this morning when suddenly lots of trail runners appeared and most of them leapt into the sea – all around me……………….while I applaud them for being able to run over impossible terrain and jump into the sea then out again and carry on running I have to ask what happened to social distancing etc etc – not a mask to be seen – sweat flying everywhere……………… why are these events still being allowed? are athletic people immune?
