The District Police, together with the Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU), Drugs Squad, Dogs Section, Environmental Protection Unit (EPU) and MT Garage, assisted by members from the Armed Forces of Malta, performed numerous road checks around Malta and Gozo during October, in which more than 2,500 vehicles were stopped and inspected.
Police said that in Gozo, there were road-blocks set up at both Victoria and Ghajnsielem.
During the checks, Police said that drivers were booked for driving without seatbelt, driving without the necessary license and/or insurance, excessive speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and sporting unauthorised tinted glass, among others.
Drivers were stopped for carrying passengers when driving without a mask, in contravention of the Legal Notice regarding mandatory wearing of masks.
Police also found drivers in possession of substances suspected to be cannabis and cocaine.
Controls that were carried out by the Environment Protection Unit (EPU) involved various illegalities related to hunting and trapping activities.
