As from Monday, the 21st of December until the 4th of January, children between the ages of two and eighteen can get a nasal spray flu vaccine for children from Health Centres around Malta and Gozo.
The Health Ministry said that for the first time, Malta has acquired twenty-five thousand sprays so that children have the opportunity to be protected from the flu without the need for a vaccination.
It explained that time chosen to administer the spray to children is intended to coincide with the Christmas holidays so that as many children as possible can have it, and therefore the majority of will return to school with immunity against the flu.
Nasal spray is not recommended for those suffering from an egg allergy and those suffering from immunosuppressive conditions.
The Health Centres are open as follows:
in Victoria, Gozo: Monday to Saturday from 10am to 7pm and Sunday from 8am to 7pm.
Mosta, Paola, Floriana, Kirkop and Gzira: Monday to Saturday from 10am to 7pm and Sunday from 8am to 7pm;
Birkirkara, Rabat (Malta), Qormi, Cospicua: Monday to Friday from 10am to 7pm, Saturday from 10am to 12pm, and Sunday from 8am to 7pm.
The flu vaccine for adults is still available from all Health Centres, the Ministry said.
