Nature Trust Malta has said that a juvenile loggerhead turtle was rescued in Gozo on last Sunday. This turtle, which has been named Joan, was found entangled in net, marine debris and ashore on a beach.
NTM gave thanks to the person who called its Wildlife Rescue Team.
Joan is now under observation at the NTM Rehabilitation Centre at San Lucjan.
She had expelled 3 pieces of plastic the day after her arrival and 2 other pieces over the past 2 days.
NTM appealed to the public to dispose of litter in a responsible manner. Marine litter is the cause of many casualties of marine wildlife.
If anybody sees some fishing gear floating at sea, then please collect it, NTM said.
If any member of the public finds a wild animal or a turtle in distress or trouble, then please call the Nature Trust Wildlife Rescue on 99999505.
