Gozo Tourism Association welcomes news of tourism recovery planThe recovery plan for Tourism on the Maltese Islands announced yesterday, has been welcomed by the Gozo Tourism Association.

In a statement on Wednesday, the GTA said that tourism has been the hardest hit sector from the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, and “fully understands and endorses the objectives of this plan which is to set out a pathway for the speedy recovery of tourism.”

The commitment of the Ministry for Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority to invest €20 million in aid and direct support to the tourism establishments is also welcomed by the Association.

It stressed that “this direct investment will assist the tourism operators to be aggressive and more competitive in a tight and intense market.”

The GTA also noted that due attention was given to connectivity to the Maltese Islands, saying that it is “comforting to know that eighteen airlines will be operating their summer schedules to and from Malta.”

It added that this number of airlines is even more encouraging since it includes four new airlines starting operating to Malta for the first time.

“This recovery plan and the contemplated measures, together with a “continued efficient vaccination roll-out” will ensure that the tourism sector in the Maltese Islands starts the way to recovery and to re-establish itself once again as one of the “main economic contributors to our Islands economy,” the GTA said.

The Gozo Tourism Association concluded by saying that it hopes that by being “more vigilant to the Health Authorities instructions and with the efficient roll out of the vaccine for the Gozitan population, destination Gozo will soon be in a position to start hosting again visitor both local and foreign.”
