Active Ageing Minister Michael Farrugia has announced that as from tomorrow, Saturday, the 3rd of July, residents in elderly care homes will be allowed a one-hour visit in the morning and one and a half-hour visit in the afternoon.
He explained that the visiting times will be established by the various homes to fit in with meal times.
They will also be able to have up to two visitors in their rooms as long as they are vaccinated and can provide proof of vaccination. The wearing of masks during the visits remains mandatory.
The Minister also announced that with effect from the 19th of July, independent elderly will be able to start going out on their own from residential homes.
Night shelters will re-open from the 19th of July and restrictions on the number of elderly persons attending day centres will be lifted, provided that social distancing, wearing of masks and hygiene practices are observed.
