Reduced quarantine for people with the vaccine certificate
Booster dose will begin to be given from mid-September to the elderly in institutions and immunosuppressed people
Health Minister Chris Fearne in a joint press conference with Superintendent of Public Health Charmaine Gauchi, has advised that an 88-year old woman has died of Covid-19 and in the last 24-hours 78 new cases have been recorded.
Dr Fearne went on to say that currently there are 35 patients in hospital receiving treatment, 4 of whom are in ITU. 95% of the cases are of the Delta variant, he said.
He explained that to date, 86% of adults are fully vaccinated while of children aged 12 to 15, 68% have taken the first dose and 39% are completely vaccinated.
He explained that 3 of the hospitalised patients are unvaccinated, including a pregnant woman. A further patient in intensive care is vaccinated, but is immunosuppressed.
He reiterated that although the amounts of new cases registered every day are not small, through the vaccine our country is in a situation where it does not have to increase the restrictions, rather we are reducing them, with caution.
Regarding vaccinations, Dr Fearne went on to say that with the emergence of new variants immunocompromised persons might require an additional dose, so a booster will be given from mid-September to the immunocompromised and residents in homes for the elderly.
He also announced that from 16 August, fully vaccinated persons who are in contact with a positive person will only need to quarantine for 7 days, instead of 14 – this until a swab test is performed on day 7, which results in a negative.
Regarding this new measure, the Superintendent of Public Health Charmaine Gauci explained that the 7-day quarantine for people holding the vaccine certificate does not apply to those who are living in the same residence as a positive person, for people living in institutions, and in the case of travel-related quarantine.

From Monday 16 August the controlled events will be able to accommodate a maximum of 300 seats, while from 30 August, the maximum amount allowed will rise to 500 seats.
Dr Fearne also confirmed that at this point no standing events will be allowed to take place.
He also announced that as of this week the country has begun recognising the vaccine certificate issued by the Albanian and Qatar Authorities, while he said that discussions are currently underway with the Canadian Authorities. Australia and Israel.
