Local actor Jayne Giordanella in Regional Finals of World Monologue Games

Local actor Jayne Giordanella from Gharb, has been selected for the World Monologue Games Regional Finals, one of 27 events featuring the best international competitors.

The World Monologue Games is the globe’s biggest acting event and features the best performers from 51 countries and attracts thousands of competitors from around the world each year.

Although it’s been a challenging 18 months for the arts, Jayne said that the global pandemic hasn’t affected her love for performing and she submitted her entry to the competition.

Jayne has now received the good news that she has been selected for the event’s Regional Finals, the best of the best from around the world. “I am very excited that I get to compete for Malta doing what I love. It’s been a fantastic challenge to be part of this new event.”

World Monologue Games was set up last year by Aussie Pete Malicki, who wanted a lockdown-friendly platform for performers. Malicki says, “It’s definitely special to have our second season take place in an Olympics year. We have the best performers from 51 countries all getting together to show the world what they’re made of. I’m not sure where else you can see such a diverse range of actors all in the same place.”

Jayne said that she has been selected with a monologue about Vanessa, a successful veterinary practitioner coming to terms with her judgemental perceptions of people and that losing control of oneself can actually happen.

She explained that, “this is quite a complex piece to perform. There’s a whole story portrayed as well as a journey of self discovery undertaken in less than 10 minutes. It’s been quite the challenge to write and perform such a piece.”

This monologue is an adapted version from a full length 3 hander play written by Jayne and her husband during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020.

The Regional Finals will be livestreamed from August to October 2021, with the winners of six different categories competing for cash prizes in the prestigious Global Finals.

Jayne’s performance forms part of the Endurance Category due to be streamed on Friday, the 3rd of September. Voting is open for 48 hours after the event.

She said that viewers with Google associated accounts e.g. Gmail can register to vote and pick their top 2 performers and help select who will progress to the Global Finals.
