The objective of the RIA system is to ensure that Gozo’s development is factored in the planning, assessment and implementation stages of any Government intervention that will result in a significant impact on the community of Gozo. The Gozo Regional Development Authority has said that following the consultation document on the proposed Regional Impact Assessment Framework issued in April, it has published the final Document entitled ‘Regional Impact Assessment System: A Non-Technical Guide.’ [1]

The objective of the RIA system is to ensure that Gozo’s development is factored in the planning, assessment and implementation stages of any Government intervention that will result in a significant impact on the community of Gozo, the GRDA said.

An additional document will be published by the GRDA in the coming months which will be covering more technical issues.

In July, the GRDA also launched its socio-economic vision [2] for the coming ten years, by way of a public consultation on the Gozo Regional Development Strategy.

The strategy will also serve as a roadmap for any further initiatives that will be undertaken with respect to Gozo for the next 10 years.

The strategy and consultation process focuses on eight key priority areas that are crucial for the future success of Gozo.

The key priority areas are:

Spatial Planning and Sustainable Urban Development

Infrastructure and Accessibility

Economic and Talent Development

New Economy

Sustainable Tourism

Social Development

Rural Development and Eco-Gozo

Culture, Heritage and the Arts.

The Consultation Document can be viewed and downloaded by clicking here [3].

The general public, NGOs, public entities and other stakeholders are invited to submit their feedback by email at consultations.grda@grda.mt [4] For further details please see here [5].

The closing date for submissions is the 31st of August 2021.

On paper it looks very nice like the sun flowers but implementation is another story. So by that time the disaster continues all over the island.

The infrastructure of the roads in Gozo are terrible and disastrous, especially when it comes to safety like crash barriers, HOPELESS. Triq Ghajn Hosna from Xaghra to Ramla, Dwejra and Xlendi Roads also are very dangerous without crash barriers.
