Starting from today, the daily Covid-19 update is being replaced by statistics focusing more on the number of patients in hospital, new and recovered cases as well as vaccines administered, Health Minister Chris Fearne said on Twitter this morning.
41 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight with 29 recoveries, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo up to 722. There have been 445 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
A total of 29 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, 2 of whom are in the ITU.
The number of vaccines administered is now over 800,000 at 800,572 up until yesterday, of which 530 were booster doses.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control [1] has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 1st of September it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 36,123 and the number of deaths showing is 440. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is 144.39.
The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.
