A new office has been inaugurated in Victoria, Gozo for the LGBTIQ + Gozo organisation by Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri together with the Minister for Equality, Research and Innovation Owen Bonnici.
The office, namedte Qawsalla Hub, will be providing Gozitan members of the LGBTIQ + community with access to various services.
Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri said that the office “is a direct investment by the Ministry for Gozo to every Gozitan resident. Through this office we will be facilitating free services such as counselling, training and social gatherings such as the youth club.”
Minister Camilleri went on to say that “this is a Government that believes in the equality and rights of LGBTIQ + people.” He said that this office is “another testimony of how much this Government puts the interests of everyone at the forefront.”
Minister Owen Bonnici expressed his satisfaction with the achievements that the country has made over the last decade in the field of rights for LGBTIQ + people and explained that it is “now our duty to continue to build on those achievements, including through services such as those to be provided by this office that will continue to provide support to LGBTIQ + people.”
Eman Borg, Coordinator of LGBTIQ + Gozo said that “with the theme – you are also included – today we are seeing the result of work that LGBTIQ + Gozo has been carrying out for the last 6 years. A work where the identities of each individual, even those Gozitans with regional identity, are fully included in the celebration of pride in Malta.”
He also thanked the Ministry for Gozo, which he said, “in recent years has shown great commitment to building this office which was necessary to facilitate services and events under one roof.”
Minister Clint Camilleri concluded by saying that Gozo is also preparing for Euro Pride 2023 and in Gozo the façade of the Ministry for Gozo was also lit up in the rainbow colours.
The LGBTIQ + Gozo helpline 99356622 is a one-stop-shop with all kinds of support services that are connected to a professional counsellor, who through means testing, refers the individual to the necessary professionals who work with the organisation.
Pride week 2021 in Malta is being held from the 10th till the 19th of September.
