The Malta Police Union (MPU) said that directives have been issued to members of the Force as part of industrial dispute regarding Traffic Management which still remains unsolved.
MPU said that as from 6am tomorrow – Sunday, all members of the Force performing “Supplementary Duties” (extra duty/overtime) are requested to wear the Police issued T-Shirt, Police Baseball Cap and Police ID tag for Identification.
The union added that as this matter remains unsolved, following several internal meetings and after that our request to continue with the mediation process remains unattended, “the Union has no choice but to issue directives.”
The MPU clarified that full normal working uniform must be worn for other duties.
The Malta Police Union said it “considers this service as an opportunity for Police officers to gain extra income during their off duties.”
This service is paid by the person/entity requesting the service and is only granted when a Police Officer is available at that date and time requested, the union said.
It added that, “refusing this service in toto does not make any sense and the Administration of the Force does not know for when this service is being requested.”
MPU stated that, “the Malta Police Force seems to have found this pandemic convenient to be used as an excuse for all its administrative inactions.”
The Union stressed that it “will cover all members of the Force as this issue affects anyone and will not tolerate any intimidation or discriminatory actions.”
