The Opposition is insisting on “decisive and urgent action to rectify the situation in the Gozo Court.”
In a joint statement on Saturday by the Nationalist Party Spokesperson for Gozo Chris Said and the PN Spokesperson for Justice Karol Aquilina, they said that “the serious situation in which the Gozo Court finds itself is a confirmation that the Labour Government has completely abandoned the field of justice in Gozo.”
“The serious situation in which the Gozo Court finds itself is also the result of the disinterest of Minister Edward Zammit Lewis and of the quarrels and grievances that exist between the Labour MPs who at one time or another have all served as Ministers for Gozo during the last 8 years,” they said.
The PN said that it “firmly believes that the Lawyers who practice in the Gozo Court are right about their complaints and the action they were forced to take. These complaints have been pending for a long time and this despite the fact that they were even formally made by the judges who work in the Gozo Court.”
The statement went on to say that, “the current situation in the Gozo Court is leading to great injustices with everyone who needs to come before it for the protection of their rights and shows the lack of respect by the Government towards all the workers of the Court, legal professionals and judges all who play an essential role in the administration of justice in Gozo.”
The Opposition concluded by insisting that “decisive and immediate action be taken to rectify the situation in the Gozo Court.”
