The introduction of the EDU Fast Ferry Card has been welcomed by the Gozo University Group, saying that it “believes that such an incentive will encourage more students and teachers to make use of this service as well as facilitate their lives even further.”
Following this announcement by the Minister for Education, Justyne Caruana, students and teachers using the Fast Ferry service will now benefit from a reimbursement of a substantial part of the ticket fare, the GUG said.
The Education Minister advised today that this measure will benefit some 1,300 students and educators that cross between the islands daily, who will be reimbursed when using the fast ferry, regardless of which operator they travel with. Payments will be made in arrears, every three months.
To benefit from the scheme students must be pursuing a course in the following three institutions: The University of Malta; Mcast; and/or Junior College.
Application must be made online which may be accessed from the Ministry of Education website. [1] These applications close on the 3rd of November.
The EDU Fast Ferry card must be used every time when using the Fast Ferry service. Students and educators will only be reimbursed for trips taken during the academic year.
The GUG explained that the verification of how many times a student or an educator has made use of the Fast Ferry service will be provided by the operators themselves to the Ministry of Education after the applicant has given his or her consent to pass such information.
The reimbursement expense will amount to a maximum of €250 per scholastic year and is in addition to all the incentives that are already given to Gozitan students and educators who live in Gozo and commute daily to Malta and back.
