€2 million in European Union funds wasted in Gozo on 6 electric coaches – PN

€2 million in European Union funds wasted in Gozo on 6 electric coaches - PNThe Nationalist Party has said that “it has been confirmed today that the Ministry for Gozo bought six electric coaches two years ago costing €1.7 million. Shortly afterwards the Ministry gave a direct order of almost a quarter of a million to buy chargers for them.”

Chris Said the PN Spokesperson for Gozo, and Kevin Cutajar, Spokesperson on European Funds, said in a statement that, “it is now two years since these coaches arrived in Gozo and they have still never been used. Instead they have been parked in a Government yard near Ggantija in Xaghra.”

“Not only that, but when the Minister for Gozo was recently asked in Parliament what was going to happen to the coaches, he replied that discussions are still ongoing to see how best to use them,” they said.

“It is clear that this is a Government that does not plan,” they said. “The Ministry has spent €2 million and two years later it still doesn’t know how to use these coaches. Meanwhile they are running down with each passing day.”

They argued that, “this is not the first case of a lack of serious planning when it comes to European Union funds in Gozo.”

The MPs stated, “projects and initiatives carried out with European Union funds in Gozo are so scarce that the Government does not want to say how much it has spent from these funds in Gozo during the past nine years.”
