A €3 million project has been announced for Gharb school, Gozo. The project will see to it that the students and educators in this school have an adequate environment to receive and give their teaching, said Education Minister Justyne Caruana.
The Gharb project involves the extensive refurbishment of the existing primary school and is intended to provide modern, accessible and comfortable educational spaces for the children and educators, she said.
This school, which is built on a single floor, and inaugurated since 1961, will be given a completely new look inside and out. This will be done by redesigning open and recreational spaces as well as by creating new spaces for learning extracurricular subjects.
Through the project the accessibility of the building will also be addressed to be in accordance with the law, the Minister explained. New furniture will be fitted that further encourages inclusion in teaching.
Minister Caruana stressed that as in all projects, including Gharb, the environment is a priority, so much so that energy efficient measures will be introduced in this building as required by law.
Until the work is completed, lessons will be given in temporary classes in the same school, so that the children continue to learn in the school environment in which they are accustomed.
Also present for the preview of this project were the Chief Executive of the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools Neville Young, the school head Marthese Attard and Gharb mayor, David Apap.
