The Labour Party Spokesperson for Local Governance, National Heritage and Youth Karl Gouder, in a statement on Thursday, said that “this morning’s reports by some media [1], that Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo has a stone ‘milestone’ as a decoration in a garden of one of his private residences, is a clear case of abuse of power.”
He argued that, “National heritage should be enjoyed by everyone and not by a single person who may think he has a right to do what he wants.”
The Shadow Minister went on to say that, “this news, which has not been denied by the Government, is all the more disturbing when everyone knows that this same Minister was for some time Chairman of Heritage Malta, when his responsibility was precisely to take care of the cultural heritage of our country and not to take pieces for himself.’
The Nationalist Party demanded that the Police Commissioner investigate the case immediately and that the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage take all necessary steps “to recover this work of art.”
The PN urged Prime Minister Robert Abela to also take immediate action on the matter.
