The JP2 Foundation is holding its first Easter Concerts after an absence of two years, with one to be held in Malta and one in Gozo, performed by the St John the Baptist Choir from North Yorkshire in the UK.
The first one, on Thursday, the 21st of April, will be held at the Immaculate Conception Parish Church, Bormla, starting at 7.00pm.
In Gozo, the concert will take place on Friday, the 22nd, at the Nativity of Our Lady Basilica Church, in Xaghra, starting at 7.30pm.
The Choir of St John the Baptist Church hails from Knaresborough, a historical market town in the county of North Yorkshire in England. The choir has a long choral tradition, with a reputation for excellence and welcomes singers of all ages and genders.
As well as singing, the regular service at St John’s each week the choir has sung services in most UK Cathedrals and several prestigious Cathedral overseas.
Most recently, St John’s were the first visiting choir to sing at York Minster following the pandemic, following which the Precentor of York Minster wrote:
“It was a great delight for us to welcome you and hear such an assured and confident choir who led our worship with dignity, skill and sensitivity. Thanks also to your Organist who was splendid! We would have no hesitation in recommending you to other cathedrals!”
St. John’s Choir is directed by Mark Hunter FGMS and their Organist is James Lonsdale FRCO.
During their long awaited tour to Malta, the choir will perform recitals of sacred music from a variety of periods based around the seasons of the church’s year.
