Colour and Light – the exceptional Willie Apap temporary exhibition at Il-Hagar Museum in Gozo, has drawn great acclaim since its opening in July.
This “landmark” exhibition of seventy pieces, is thought to be the largest ever presentation of his works.
It showcases his genius and versatility: oils and inks of portraits, landscapes and still-lifes, dancers, human figures, sacred and ethnic works.
As a result of many requests, exhibition curator Ms Maria Cassar will be delivering a public lecture on Saturday, the 25th of September, starting at 11am.
A graduate in Art History from the University of Malta, Ms Cassar carried out extensive research on Apap leading to new discoveries, a number of which are being exhibited for the first time here.
Willie Apap (1918-1970), who lived and worked for most of his adult life in Italy, was one of Malta’s leading exponents of 20th-century art.
Participation for the lecture is free but booking on events@heartofgozo.org.mt [1] is recommended.
The exhibition will run until the 10th of October. Il-Hagar Museum is located in St George’s Square, Victoria, entrance is free of charge. Normal opening hours are 9am to 5pm, seven days a week.
