A land transfer has been signed for Pjazza l-Assedju in the heart of Victoria, from the Lands Authority to the Ministry for Gozo and Planning, which was presided over by Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri and Minister for Lands and Electoral Programme Implementation Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi.
The government said that this signing will allow for the implementation of a project that includes open green space as well as underground parking, in order to improve services and infrastructure in the city.
The project includes an addition of approximately 2,100 square metres of wooded open space as well as a new multi-level car park providing at least 230 additional parking spaces.
Minister Camilleri said, “this project will greatly enhance the heart of Victoria by creating a beautiful open space for families and also addressing the need for additional parking.”
He stressed that “all of this is being done with a clear vision that looks towards the sustainable development of Gozo and that goes hand in hand with both the regional development strategy of Gozo: Island of Villages as well as the Malta Vision 2050 – a national vision that seeks to create better, more sustainable communities with a higher quality of life for future generations.”
He said that this project “confirms the government’s commitment to continue investing in the heart of Gozo, with initiatives that improve the quality of life of citizens and boost the sustainable development of the island.”
Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi said that, “with this agreement, the Lands Authority is continuing to assist in making a change in the mode of transport in the heart of our communities for greater convenience for Gozitans and all those who visit this locality.”
The minister went on to say that this project also demonstrates the “Authority’s commitment so that more spaces in the heart of localities that are government property are regenerated into open spaces for the benefit of the community.”
In 2024, [1] the Gozo Regional Development Authority (GRDA) had issued a Preliminary Market Consultation on the project known as Victoria Car Park and Green Space in Pjazza l-Assedju, which closed in September. The Gozo Minister told Parliament in November [2] that one submission had been received at the time of closure.
